BioBUDS achieves these goals through weekly journal clubs (selected by the journal club guest facilitator of the week) and professional panels and workshops (curated by the graduate instructors of the course). We continue and expand this graduate-initiated program, which seeks to strengthen community-building and collaboration across academic levels between diverse scientists and disciplines. Public school teachers play an essential role in the lives of many children. Growing up, I remember how my mom dedicated countless personal hours before and after school to her students and me in order to provide us with the best education possible, utilizing a variety of pedagogical methods to teach concepts, showing videos and immersing all of her students (including me) in activities that were educationally meaningful. I would not be a scientist if my mom had not advocated for my education as a child with hearing loss. During my doctoral studies, I will also devote time to fostering scientific communication and access to marginalized communities. As a scientist, I will advocate for education across socioeconomic, political, and cultural divides and ability.
